do you "help" the camera "unmask" such pixels by selecting any concrete or extreme ISO or exposure time settings?

Hello,

During cam tests I always register 
1: a take with a white board overexposed
2: a take with a lens cap covering ( complete black)

Afterwards is check the files on a big screen in full resolution to check dead pixels. (Make sure you have a good monitor, you’e not able to see dead pixels on every monitor, it helps to push contrast, aperture…)

And yes, it happens a lot!

I have the Convergent Design Gemini 4:4:4 and I'm looking to get the ARRIRAW license.
I contacted Convergent Design and they cannot generate any license since they don't have the software anymore to do it. The product is discontinued.

I have exactly the same problem with sLog&444 licenses for my two PMW-F3’s - yet that involves a bit more hardware logistics, since the license is portable by means of using the secure region of the SxS card - as opposed to a serial number locked RAW license for a FS5, which is generated online, and its still possible to buy a code.

It would be nice if a product which is discontinued would be freed from this licensing hell - as I work with programmable chips and the software there is also locked to certain parts/families/versions, the usual practice is that one can get a full-support license for vintage parts / software versions, as the manufacturer has released universal activation codes for their old software.

I doubt Convergent really has no software for it. They are just refusing to support their customer (who already paid), same way as Sony does not care about the ones who own their gear. Next time, we have to choose a better brand.

Any chance lens mapping is turned off?

Is the amount the lens is off consistent?  You could always slide the motor up or down a bit on it's mount while engaged to the lens to compensate.

The pre-marked rings for the Preston FIZ HU3 are mathematically created, whereas the majority cinematic lenses are hand made and even the focus markings on 2 identical Cookes s4 50mm will differ, especially at the Close Focus end. The Preston Handunit is mathematically calculating the distance between set points to then predetermine where the focus points should be (mathematically) but this isn’t always the case.

Hello: 
Preston HU3 with MDR-2, G4 converted.
After mapping a lens the premarked ring does not match the marks on the lens anymore. Did a Soft Reset and  the Focus knob Calibration and nothing improved. It’s always the same amount of offset and to the same direction, less in the D ring more towards the A ring. At 2 meters it sets the focus at around 2,10 more or less. 
Any ideas?

I haven’t used a cinetape in quite some time as I’ve happily swithed to CineRT. But I always kept the setting firmly on -1. It resulted in what felt to me like a quicker refresh rate and a faster display, which I preferred to a slower, stable one.

Whilst i havent tested this myself i understood it as:
1=changes when actor moves more than 1 inch. Once they are past the inch they need to move more than one inch backwards for the display to go back. But if they move 0.9 inches the display wont change
-1=shows chenge immediately which means that if they are wavering at 1ft he display will quickly jump between 1' and 1'1 making the display difficult to read from fast change.

I should test this.

I remember reading this in the past, never understood the minus values. 

I understood the 1 value: “maintains the displayed distance 
until the distance change is greater than 1 unit”, but I don’t get the -1 setting: “maintains the displayed distance until the distance change is plus or minus (+/-) 1 unit.

From the manual: It's is a rounding system.
 
Adjusting the Display Resolution (Starting at Version 1.06)
The Display Resolution is the amount of distance rounding-off that is shown on the Cine Tape Measure
display. Reducing the resolution (Increasing the rounding-off) is useful when a more stable display is
desired. The resolution setting is the third item accessed through the Power-up Menu. This setting shows
as “rE x” or “rE –x” where “rE” is the abbreviation for resolution and “x” is the amount of rounding-off. The
displayed minus sign (-) is the graphical representation for plus or minus (+/-). The four resolution settings
are; 1, 2, -1 & -2.
The ‘1’ setting is the normal (maximum) setting and maintains the displayed distance
until the actual (physical) distance change is greater than 1 unit.
The ‘2’ setting maintains the displayed distance until the actual (physical) distance
change is greater than 2 units. Only even numbers are displayed.
The ‘-1’ setting maintains the displayed distance until the actual (physical) distance
change is plus or minus (+/-) 1 unit.
The ‘-2’ setting maintains the displayed distance until the actual (physical) distance
change is plus or minus (+/-) 2 units. Only even numbers are displayed.
To access the display resolution adjustment, unplug the power cable, then plug it back into the Cine Tape
Measure while pushing and holding the Select / Adjust knob. The brightness setting shows initially.
Momentarily push (click) the Select / Adjust knob twice to advance past the close focus adjustment to the
display resolution adjustment. Adjust the resolution to the desired level by turning the Select / Adjust
knob. Then lock the setting into memory and return to normal operation by momentarily pushing (click) the
Select / Adjust knob

They say the new F-5A is closer to the 58 than de 55 is, in terms os peaking, aperture, focus capabilities. 
Have you tested it?
