so sdi in from camera cross conversion sdi-hdmi into the ninja star and back out into the small hd hdmi in port. if you know of another device capable of this around the same size please let me know.
thanks, Conor.

You have to choose your input on the Small HD. You can pick SDI and view the image live from the camera and then change to HDMI when playing back.

Shouldn't be a problem.  I use the SDI input on my 702 all the time.  Pretty sure I've also used the HDMI input on it as well.  Just go into the menu and choose the input.

Have you looked at the Black Magic Video Assist? It would give you what I think you need in a single unit. The only heads up is that it requires very specific SD cards. Anything else, including newer, faster cards, will cause errors.

Did you set the HDMI OUTPUT to SDI?
This should definitely work.

You should find these options in the menu.

HDMI OUTPUT   > HDMI
                            >  SDI

SDI OUTPUT   > SDI
                         >  HDMI

Also what format are you using? What camera?

NEBTEK is a Small HD dealer as well as an Atomos dealer.

We manufacture these products to make mounting for the 702 easier with these products:

Is there any chance your camera or the output on the SmallHD is set to something the Star can't handle? That was the main reason I moved away from the Atomos Ninja - it couldn't handle 1080 60p, just 23.98p or 60i.
