Any recommendations on kit to shoot a faux bullet time effect with a phantom?

paul@...

Greetings,

Doe anyone have recommendations on a camera mount to rotate a phantom on a platform around a subject for a bullet time style effect?
Something like this, but with Phantom level camera support for weight and operation:

Thanks in advance for any ideas. the shoot is in Seoul next week.

Wow, really cool dude

Thanks Rob!
That rig looks really good.
A friend recommended trying circular dolly track and working on pushing the dolly at different speeds to match the action (athletes jumping over the camera with sky background).
Whatever we end up doing we’ll post with a little BTS, it should be fun.

Reverse mount a Jimmy jib to the ceiling / grid. I haven’t personally done this but I’ve been  up close and seen it done in several arenas for sports or concert coverage. should be OTS parts for mounting + truss and rigging.  there is also this which I saw a few NAB’s ago. with a techno reverse rigged  - http://skytechno.com

Hi Paul, thanks for the compliment. This was a first test and I am still working on it to get it better, faster and more stable. But it is promising!  With jumping athletes it needs of course a higher platform around it so that it doesn’t hit any feet.... still, the danger-circle is around 2 meters in diameter so a considerable opening in the platform and it might be too much for safety reasons.
But with good athletes it should be possible....
The construction can be made smaller, a tighter circle, with the camera angled up to 60-80 degrees to see the action.

With human actions 200 frames might be fast enough. Phantom speeds of 1000 fps need such high rotational speeds to see any circle motion that there is a real danger of the construction exploding..... and -in my opinion- for a shot like this you need at least 180 degrees in say 2 seconds playback time. That is 50 or 60 frames. And that asks for a  speed of around 10 revolutions per second, 600 per minute..... nah, not possible with a payload of a Phantom Flex4k!

The dolly might work, if it doesn’t fly of the tracks....

Hi

We can assist you with this. We have a Phantom camera for every budget, from a Phantom VEO 4K, to VEO 640S and a FLEX 2.5K, etc.

We also have a Bolt Robot Arm and a 1500 sq ft white cyc studio in Van Nuys – the Robot Arm would facilitate super-fast camera movement, shooting at 2000 FPS or 5000 FPS etc.

We can also provide the crew, lighting and lenses; we have a wide variety inc. Master Primes, Master Macro, Ultra Primes, Leica M 08 Summilux, Atlas Anamorphic, Tokina Cinema Vista, Cooke S4/I, Standard Speeds MK2, etc..

Hit me up if you want to discuss in more detail.

Kind regards,

Hi Paul,
Call Matt Blum, excellent Key Grip. He has built many versions of this rig. Probably has demo spots of each one.
