Typewriter Macro Shots for Documentary
Roberto Schaefer, ASC, AIC
Unfortunately I don't have any examples to show and if I had the time (which I don't) I would take out my S&S Clairmont Century lens set and shoot some tests for you. It's worth getting a set for a day or two and test it out, even with a PL mount DSLR though you do need rods and a baseplate for the bellows system to work.

Interesting shot Thaddeus Cooper. Thank you for sharing. A swing & tilt (swing/shift) lens system can also be used to great advantage for the macro element but also to make room for someone to type easily. @Roberto Schaefer, would you have any examples of a tilt/shift system that would work for this? I'm prepping for a shoot with a lot of book filming. This sounds interesting. All the best, Dick Harrewijn NSC Netherlands

It turned out great. Another lens that works well for shots like that that I use is a Super Takumer 50mm f/3.5 macro lens

It was a Rokinon 35mm lens with a 13mm macro extension tube. Thaddeus O. Cooper Cinematographer/Producer San Jose, CA

Hello All —
A few weeks ago on the Wednesday Zoom call we had a discussion about work that people were doing. I’ve been working on a documentary where we are using typewriters to tell part of the story. A few people were curious about what the shots looked like, so I am posting a link to a short sample of one shot, and a link to what the setup looked like.
