I need suggestions for a small light weight prompter for hand held / EasyRig work. Political shoot.

Bodelin makes the pro prompter (disclaimer I both own and rent it). It's certainly lightweight enough for handheld work.

When working with two iPads via Bluetooth they're great (otherwise you can use a volume type cable or Bluetooth remote to control speed). But I'd like to warn that iPad style teleprompters overall seem less stable than their monitor+laptop counter parts so I'd avoid them for mission critical or live applications.

For non live work and smaller shoots they're perfect though.

I actually just purchased a solution for myself for almost this exact scenario.  It was a political commercial and they wanted to be mobile and shoot the stand-up outside away from power and so a studio prompter wouldn’t work.  I didn’t go handheld, but this set-up is easy enough and small enough to do so.

I purchased the Eye Direct Mark II set-up.  Here’s the site: http://eyedirect.tv

Then all you need to add is an iPad, a mac laptop, and buy the teleprompt+ software for both the mac and the iPad.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Jim

The ProPrompter is great but the current iPad models are big and need rails. Not so good for handheld. They used to make a smaller one for iPhones that clamped on like a big lenshood. The iPhones just weren’t bright enough for outdoor work in those days so ours just sat in the cupboard for years. Recently I gave it another go when we wanted to take it to a remote shoot without the hassle of the huge case the big ProPrompter lives in. Using a iPhone 7 Plus we had no trouble at all using it in full daylight. If you can track one of those down I reckon it would be perfect for your application. The clamp diameter is 100mm.

The iAutoscript app and iPhone iAutoscroll control app is the best I’ve seen.

The Autocue op we had on a shoot the other week begrudgingly admitted it actually works!!
