Hi there Derek,

That makes sense.  I'll check into that company.   I understand now that I'll need to provide liability insurance.  Apart from the insurance issue, do you have a personal limit to how much expense you're willing to front in order to facilitate a shoot?

Brian,

This is an issue that comes up from time to time for me, especially when foreign productions role into town and want to hire me. If they ask me to hire crew and/or equipment then the rule is that I need full payment before any equipment goes out the door. Salaries are paid in full in exchange for rushes. Exceptions are made if I have a working relationship with the people.

Like many here, I've travelled the world for work and I have yet to find a single rental house or production company willing to rent to me on different terms. Its just normal, healthy business practice. Doing otherwise, means that you are taking a financial risk with no upside possible. Extending credit is for banks and we all saw in 2008 how that party ended when the terms were too loose.

Good luck.
