Wayne Baker RIP

Mark Weingartner, ASC

Sad news
Wayne Baker, veteran Focus Puller, consummate Camera Technician, raconteur, and CML contributor has left the building.

Known for his prolific work in large format, under water, aerial, visual effects, and other odd niches of our craft, his loss is felt by many of us who knew and doubtless many who would have loved the chance to know him.

Wayne and I worked together on numerous projects over the last couple of decades and poured countless libations together. I brought him with me on Batman
Begins and he became a fixture on the Nolan pictures. He appears in a scene in The Dark Knight sitting on a loading dock on Lower Wacker Drive eating a sandwich.

There are many stories about Wayne - I encourage those who knew him to pour a drink and tell those stories - that’s how we keep those we love with us.

I feel honored to have worked with Wayne on several IMAX projects, including "Magnificent Desolation" and "Siegfried & Roy, The Magic Box," plus a few shows where we didn’t meet, like Crimson Tide and The Mask. R.I.P.

I never got to work with Wayne, but we knew each other through Hydroflex for many years.

And then I regularly got to chat with him at trade shows.  But I hadn't seen him for a number of years.

Was he ill?  Sudden heart issue?  Mark, can you provide more details?
