Test and feedback for 2x front anamorphic attachment? Any volunteers in the Los Angeles area?

Dwight Lindsey

Our next product is a front anamorphic attachment, 2x squeeze.

We now have several prototypes.  They are early prototypes and there are some issues.

The lens is confirmed to work on Ultra Prime lenses from 65mm to 100mm.  It will almost certainly work on other T2 prime lenses in that focal length range.  It may well work with some compact zooms in a similar focal length range, but we have not tested that yet.

Our goal is to produce an attachment that works with T2 lenses 50mm and longer.  These early prototypes do not do that, but we’d like some early feedback before the next design and prototype round.

Our attachment needs to be focused in concert with the base lens.  Focus is geared. Ideally we’ll coordinate focus with the base lens using motors.  Meanwhile our lens can be focused manually to match the base lens.  In the short term, focus pulls without motors will be awkward at best.

If you’re in the Los Angeles area and would be interested in participating in the early trials, please email me privately or call my cell phone.

Very interesting. It also reminds me the Franscope system. It was very popular in France in the 1960’s with  the Nouvelle Vague directors. Raoul Coutard used it on Jules & Jim, Lola and Contempt.  The Fellous brothers adapted it with the  Angenieux 35mm zoom 35-140mm. Apparently the focus was quite challenging on that system.

There is one unit at the Cinematheque in Paris http://www.cinematheque.fr/fr/catalogues/appareils/collection/objectif-anamorphoseur-de-prise-de-vuescnc-ap-15-1267-1-2.html
