Access to previous messages on all CML lists

Jignesh Jhaveri, Photographer + DOP, Mumbai, India.

Hello!

I'm exploring the new Groups.io platform for CML and can't seem to locate previous posts.

Should I be checking on Lyris or will they move here?

Kind Regards,

Messages from pre now will vanish at the end of the year.

Groups.io is the future.

Thanks Geoff,

I'm probably missing something thats staring me right in the face, but when I go to cinematography.net and attempt to access the lists as before, I'm redirected to the current Groups.io version.

Any way to reach the gold mine of previous discussions?

Kind Regards,

I guess that's why I've been saving messages with useful information in my email client :)  But it's too bad the searchable database of previous discussions will go away... More sales for the CML books?

It’s a great theory that the archives are really useful but the reality is that almost nobody uses them.
This was a major factor in the move, I’d always resisted because I had to protect the archives, until I checked the stats and saw that they weren’t being used.

I’ll try and get hold of the SQL files and if anyone is interested in writing an interface to them…

That way we’d have messages since 2000.

As for the books, ha! Barely covered the costs, I thought that Basics would do well as an ebook but no, again, barely covered the costs.

I’ll be doing more edited pages but I gave up, as did David, because of the problems of sorting out the quoted garbage from the message, if only people had followed the rules…

It’s not that easy to find the book Geoff.

Found this after a struggle.

https://www.amazon.com/Timeless-Cinematography-Basics-Geoff-Boyle-ebook/dp/B01MR47UDN

To my surprise found others as well. Three to be exact? At gloogle books.

Funny that hat CML gave me mathematicians books. Only adding Geoff Boyle returned the right search.

Sales can’t be that great unless we shamelessly promote the thing?

at gloogle books there was a feature “print this book” the same is not available for Kinder is it?

and sorry. Kindle not kinder.
Got confused with Tinder :-)

Look Mr Boyle. Not trying to be witty here. So apologies first.
After your comment I found the link at cinematography.net  about the compiled book and how can I say. It’s very discreet and very “English”

I would suggest a more “American” in your face approach might produce better sales results.

Anyway I am really enjoying my reading. Chocolate and vanilla ice cream experience.
Brilliant read and a bargain. For 6 euros.

Here you can have a glass of wine for six euros.

Don’t drink :-)

Anyway, Amazon take a chunk.

I’m looking at uploading .mbx files of the various groups from 2007 to 2017
My test of CML-General comes in at 15MB and all the others should be a bit smaller.
So, all the messages for the last 10 years will be there for anyone who wants them!
