C500 raw log

Alejo Crisostomo

Hello everyone,

I have been hunting for this specific information for a while with Canon, but haven’t got an answer. Forgive me if this is not the right group to drop this question in.

I am working with a 4K Raw material from a Canon C500 (the first C500, not the m2) recorded to an Odyssey 7q+. I am trying to map it through Color Management in DaVinci Resolve but I am not sure which Canon Log I should choose for Input color space. I believe that when the camera came out, only Canon Log existed but Log 2 and 3 might have been added through firmware updates. I am not sure. Camera is updated to the latest firmware that came out but there is no way to choose a specific Log trough the camera menu.

Anyone here with experience working with this specific material and settings?

Warm regards from Chile,

If memory serves you’re limited to the original Canon Log and that’s it.

I'm not familiar with the DeVinci LUTs or presets but you might look for Canon Cinema Log. I've set the C500 to that in the past.
On the other hand you might just choose the one that looks true to your eye.

Alejo,
The color spaces that the original C500 was able to record in while using an external recorder were BT. 709, DCI-P3+, Cinema Gamut and BT. 2020. I believe Cinema Gamut was the most popular for film production. All were sent to the recorder as Canon Log.
I hope this is helpful. Good luck.

Yes it’s C Log only, I shot with a 500 many times in RAW, you want the 33 grid C-Log to colour space of you’re choice from the Canon LUTs which you can download.
