Sony Forum Disappeared

Noel Sterrett

It appears that the "official" Sony forum for large format cameras has vanished without a trace:

Anyone know what's up?

Cheers.

It's here but boy what a mess. Usual Sony thinking.

Apparently now you have US and EU log ins!? Mess, mess, mess.

For me, this is worse than a mess. The site served as the knowledge base, most of which was provided by forum members, including me, for the large format cameras. It helped identify and solve countless operating problems.

Peter Crithary stated in writing that it was the official site for information and updates for the cameras.

Now, without warning, the knowledge base is no more. Stolen in the middle of the night.

Cheers.

Yeah, this is ridiculous - Those forums were the only place to find proper links to firmware updates, news about upcoming updates - and early-adopter reports to warn you when it was a good idea to hang back a bit ...   and frankly getting answers from other users is generally much easier than getting answers from Sony.

In the era of the F-55 upgrade that required a factory update of certain serial number ranges, I imagine the information on those forums saved hundreds of owners from bricking their cameras - and saved Sony service thousands of hours dealing with bricked cameras...

Any chance this is a temporary outage?  It is a weekend, often server/site maintenance is done on weekends...

From what I have learned so far, this was planned and is permanent.

Exactly. The forum was the official source of support for the camera package. It also provided Sony with technical support provided free by users as well as crucial feedback while they were developing the software. Summarily erasing the knowledge base for all but themselves is outrageous and disturbing. If it's not legally theft, it should be.

I'm officially done with ANYTHING Sony.
